on the trampoline
For a couple days this past week we’ve had some amazing temperatures for this time of year: in the high 60s and even low 70s when we should be in the 50s or 40s. That, combined with the recent time change, makes for some very beautiful and enjoyable evenings.
On Tuesday, my wife had to run into town for a church function, so I got to hang out with the kids. They wanted to jump on the trampoline, so I joined them for a while. After a few minutes, it became apparent that our daughter was gathering more than her fair share of static electricity, so I begged her to let me take a few shots of her. She was amazingly compliant.

Surprisingly, once I was done with the hair shots, my son wanted to get in on the action as well. I obliged him a few shots, even though he could barely hold still (which, of course, makes me bounce since I’m on the trampoline too), let alone give me a decent face to shoot.

He eventually sat still long enough for a decent shot or two.

On a side note, when my favorite lens exploded all over the kitchen floor, I decided to upgrade to a better version of the lens instead of simply replacing it. I went with the Canon 50mm 1.4 and let me tell you, I have not regretted the upgrade price in the slightest. The old lens, the Canon 50mm 1.8, was very cheap, and was a very valuable lens. However, when shooting wide open, I had a hard time ever getting anything sharp. With this new lens, shooting at 1.4 makes it hard to get anything in focus (because the focal plane is so razor thin, it’s easy to miss), but when it nails it, boy, does it nail it. Sweet, sweet lens.

Loving that top shot - it would look great in negative too!
