the saltair session

Posted in personal, photography by rik on March 13th, 2008

So, I’ve been posting these little by little, but it seems like I let them sit for too long. With 70 degree temperatures outside, I just don’t know how cute my sweater-clad kids are going to be for too much longer.

For those that aren’t sure what I’m talking about, during our trip to Utah this past Christmas, we went out to the leftover shell of a building that is Saltair, a one-time resort on the southern coast of the Great Salt Lake. Not too far from there is an abandoned building that is a graffiti artist’s dream and a photographer’s background utopia. We took the kids out there in new clothes we bought just for the shoot and had a great, albeit freezing, little session.

Without further ado, then, here are a few more of the shots I’ve processed.

We kicked it off with a few shots of the kids in the doorway to the building (mostly because we were still a bit nervous about going in).

And here’s our little Gap model, just hangin’ out in front of an awesome, Dr. Seuss’-Cat-in-the-Hat-inspired mural.

I just can’t believe the expression I got on our little guy in this one.

Yeah, there are more, but I’m not sure if you’ll see them here…I’m starting to sweat just looking at those sweaters.

Happy Spring, everyone!

Another from Saltair.

I can’t believe I have all these and have forgotten to post them. Silly me.

This is one of my absolute favorites from the session with my kids.
