For Family Home Evening this week we broke out my one souvenir from California: a do-it-yourself soda geyser kit. All you need are a handful* of Mentos, a two-liter of soda–diet works best because a) it doesn’t leave a sticky residue, and b) it’s all we had–and a method for delivering the Mentos into the bottle that doesn’t involve you standing over it, dropping them in one by one.

When it was all said and done, there was still some soda left in the bottle. It was slightly minty (from the Mentos) but completely and totally flat.

Go figure.

*A handful is roughly defined as 7 on the package.

  1. I don’t know you, but I enjoyed visiting your blog! Great to see you hold family home evenings. Way to go!

I’m a huge FHE fan and have an FHE group on the new and safe LDS Ladies Room site at http://www.ourladiesroom.com/ if you want to check it out.

  2. thanks for stopping by, anne, and thanks for the invite, though i’m afraid that i will have to respectfully decline…i just don’t i’d be right for your ladies group.

    sincerely,

  3. My family loves Steve Spangler’s Mentos Geyser experiment! We bought the Geyser Tube from his website and now it’s even more fun.

I also signed up for his Experiment of the Week and now we get a free experiment in my email every single week. It’s awesome!
